FAST Synthesis and Recycling of Battery Materials
The U.S. has identified a great need for the domestic production of battery materials. Conventional synthesis methods for battery materials include aqueous co-precipitation, sol-gel, and solid-state synthesis. Each of these processes has inherent problems including multiple, slow, and energy-intensive steps, which hinder high-throughput, direct battery material production. Storagenergy is developing a Flame-Assisted Spray Technology (FAST) that can be less resource- and capital-intensive, and faster for battery materials manufacturing by demonstrating the following advantages:
- Short production process and high-throughput
- Precise control of stoichiometry in each particle
- Versatile for various battery materials direct production
- Easy to scale up for battery material mass production at a low cost.
Storagenergy’s FAST process is a continuous flow synthetic technique requiring a relatively simple apparatus, that can be easily scaled up to the productivity of tons per day. It is also compatible with direct recycling and up-cycling of spent EV battery cathode materials, enabling a closed-loop continuous recycling process.
