Redox flow batteries (RFB) offer an advantage over conventional sealed batteries, as their energy and power can be scaled independently by maintaining all of the electro-active species in fluid form, and provide a viable path for long duration grid scale load deferment. Storagenergy is investigating metal/ceramic separator which will eliminate possible electrolyte crossover, increase the cycling stability and improve the energy density for nonaqueous RFBs. The developed energy-dense, long-cycle nonaqueous flow batteries with highly selective cation conducting membrane would meet the energy storage industry demands of low cost and sustainability.
